A Dietitian's Favorite Walking Gear for Beginners for Spring 2023

In our weight loss program, we stress the importance of walking to burn extra calories. The first step of starting a walking routine is to make sure you have the right gear! I have many clients who have every intention of starting their walking and strength plan, but find that they don’t have the correct shoes, exciting clothes, or even warm weather gear for outside! Let’s fix that by making sure you have these basic essentials:

Shoes:

You’ve got to make sure that have you have supportive shoes that will prevent injury. If you don’t have comfortable walking shoes, there’s no way you’re going to be able to get in your 10k steps! Here are my favorites:

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22

Brooks Glycerin Stealthfit GTS 20

Socks:

My husband made fun of me for SO LONG about how much I loved nice socks…until I bought some for him. Now I catch him buying these for himself all the time! Supportive socks are one of the small pleasures in life and truely make walking so much easier. These are some of my fav’s!

Lululemon Powerstride Tab Socks

Shorts:

Chafing? Not here! These are my favorite biker shorts. All the pockets and the compression? Yes please!

Lululemon Fast and Free Shorts

Sport Bras:

We gotta keep the girls stable! Since I live in TX, the least amount of clothes in the warmer months, the better! I love this bra/ crop top because it feel like it’s covering more than just a bra just still super lightweight.
