Review of TruVy Boost Weight Loss Supplement

Written by Jordyn King BS, MS Nutrition Science

What is TruVy Boost?

Recently, Truvy has been the new trendy weight loss supplement, especially on social media and Google; but what is really in it? And is this a legit product? Or just a Pyramid scheme? So, I decided to do some of my own research on this supplement and see what all the buzz was all about. Truvy, formerly known as Truvision Health, was established to make weight loss products has been said from the website that it is a combination of natural plant derivatives that improve the body’s ability to lose body fat and support your overall health. One orange and purple capsule that should be taken daily. “Tru” claims it supports all systems on the body and “Vy boost” helps you control weight and energy. TruVy Boost is a weight management combo and are taken together 2x a day (4 capsules)  Basically, the pills are said to boost metabolism and help you to lose weight fast by converting blood sugar to energy allowing you to eat whatever you want. However, there is little evidence that indicates these claims and such “natural plant” ingredients exist in these products.

From looking at the three of the main ingredients in TruVy products on the website, they list Green coffee bean extract, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Raspberry Ketone, Magnesium & Cinnamon Bark extract.

The main Ingredients of Tru: Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA), Magnesium, Raspberry Ketones, and Cinnamon Bark Extract

  • Alpha Lipoic Acid: Alpha Lipoic acid (LA), also known as α-lipoic acid, alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) and thioctic acid, is an organosulfur compound derived from caprylic acid (octanoic acid). Research has shown that alpha-lipoic acid may affect weight loss in several ways. However, the research was only on animal studies, not human studies.

  • Magnesium: The main reason why some experts recommend magnesium for people trying to lose weight is that magnesium regulates the sugar in the blood and insulin production.

  • Raspberry Ketone: Raspberry ketone is one of several naturally occurring chemicals in red raspberries that contribute to their aroma. Ketones also occur naturally in other fruits such as cranberries and blackberries, but in smaller amounts. However, There is no evidence that raspberry ketone is safe or effective as a dietary supplement ingredient for weight loss.

  • Cinnamon Bark extract: there is some research on cinnamon which may have a minor positive effect on body composition but it will not supercharge your metabolism into a calorie burning furnace that sheds pounds.

The main Vy Boost:

  • Green coffee bean extract: I can see there is short term energy from the high caffeine content. This is supposed to keep you energized throughout the day and reduce food cravings. Additionally, research suggests that Coffee Bean Extract can facilitate weight loss while Green Tea Extract has many benefits for many health conditions and metabolic disorders.

Truvy also contains Octodrine, which is a banned supplement in many sporting agencies, which indicates not enough research has been done on this product. However, sporting agencies don't recommend possibly due this product because of the extremely high caffeine content.

Side Effects: Stomach upsets, insomnia, mood swings, jitters, rapid heartbeats, headaches and increased blood pressure.

Recommended Usage to TruVy Boost:

The website suggests taking Truvy Boost together twice a day. Take one Tru (PURPLE) and one Vy (ORANGE) Boost before breakfast in the morning and then again in the early afternoon around lunch. They website claimed they are most powerful when combined with an appropriate meal regimen and exercise program.

TruVy Boost vs Calorie Deficit and Exercise

TruVy Boost can be an expensive product to maintain and subscribe too. TruVy Boost supplements could work in a short time. however, we can’t rely on supplements overtime. Being in a calorie deficit is required in order to lose weight. However, what does it involve and why is it necessary for weight loss? We all know that calories are the units of energy you get from food and beverages and when you consume fewer calories than you burn you achieve a calorie deficit. Doing this pattern consistently for long periods of time results in long term weight loss. There are two ways you can become in a calorie deficit; this includes when changing what and how much you eat and how much you exercise or increase your physical activity. Keep in mind, a registered dietitian can always help you figure out healthy ways to manage your portion sizes, lower your daily calories through healthy eating and maintaining healthy eating habits which then follows up with a healthy relationship with food.  Calorie deficit, improved mental health, and increasing activity are the only sure-fire ways to get you to your weight loss goals with no cost at all! We need to remember, supplements are not a weight loss solution. Increasing metabolism can take a long time, but be patient because it can be recovered! Keep in mind, as you gain muscle as well with increase workouts, your metabolism improves which means you are able to consume more calories because you're burning more calories even at rest!

Cost: $111- One Time Purchase  or $89.00 for monthly subscription

  • 1-30 day supply Tru™ capsules (60ct.)

In Conclusion...

Due to the lack of research, I have personally found for each ingredients on TruVy Boost product, I would not recommend this supplement to anyone, especially with hypertension, chronic diseases or any other medical problems. I believe improving your eating habits, lowering caloric intake, and taking a multivitamin daily will keep you healthy while losing weight. There is no such thing as a magic pill to take off your weight while eating whatever you want. As a nutritional professional, I emphasize the need for sound research and nutritional evidence that can back up claims from product labels on supplements. There has been minimal clinical trials and research that TruVy has completed to suggest that their product improves weight loss or metabolism. Also, many of the supplements of this brand have too many side effects to make the investment worth it. We need to remember, supplements are not a weight loss solution.
