5 Places in Miami to Get Your Steps in

One of the best ways to see a new city and stay active while on vacation is to get walking! Early morning or late afternoon is the best time to exercise in Miami since it can get pretty hot and humid mid-day. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water and wear sunblock!

Many neighborhoods in Miami are very walkable, including Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Miami Beach, and Brickell. If you prefer to walk on a path or trail, try one of these five places to get your steps in while in Miami.

Miami Beach Boardwalk

The Miami Beach Boardwalk begins on South Beach and stretches north along Miami Beach to the town of Surfside. Several hotels line the boardwalk and if you walk a couple blocks into town, you will find several restaurants and shops. My favorite place to stop is Crema Gourmet Espresso Bar on Collins Ave for coffee or the Broken Shaker on 28th Street for drinks!

Rickenbacker Causeway Trail

Just 15 minutes from downtown, you’ll find this 9 mile long trail that is perfect for walking, biking, or running. There are scenic views of the Miami coastline the whole way and part of the trail follows a narrow beach. The trail ends on the island of Key Biscayne at Crandon Park.

Brickell Key Park

Off the coast of the Miami neighborhood of Brickell you will find Brickell Key. The island is connected to the mainland by a bridge and has several condominiums and a hotel. The walking path is 1.2 miles long and in the shape of a triangle, which makes it easy to do more than one loop! After your walk, cross the bridge and you will find Raccoon Coffee and Kitchen on Brickell Ave.

Bill Baggs State Park

Bill Baggs State Park is located on the island of Key Biscayne and is a great place to swim, kayak, snorkel, bike, or walk. There is one walking trail that is 3 miles long and another that is 1.5 miles long. If you prefer to explore on two wheels, bike rentals are available. The state park also has a mile-long beach and a historic lighthouse!

Miami Riverwalk

The Miami River Walk begins at Bayside Marketplace in Brickell and ends at the Riverwalk Metro Station. The path follows the Miami river and is about one mile long one way. You can find several restaurants, bars, and shops in Bayside Marketplace to grab something to eat or drink after your walk.
