8 Must-Try Dallas/Fort Worth Texas Restaurants
Written by Amelia Heimerman
Everything is bigger in Texas, including the number of healthy and tasty restaurants in the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) area. The DFW Metroplex is home to Dallas, Fort Worth, and the many suburbs nestled in between. As the area continues to grow and open its arms to businesses and people alike, DFW embraces a variety of cultural backgrounds that enhance its food scene. As a rising junior at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, I am no stranger to some great and healthy eats in the area. I’m excited to share with you both restaurants I am looking to try and ones I love!
Flower Child
1616 S University Dr, Fort Worth, TX 76107
Flower Child is a cute spot in University Park Village, a shopping area next to TCU. Upon walking inside, you are met with a menu filled with a variety of healthy, colorful, and tasty options. This spot boasts salads, bowls, wraps, sandwiches, and more. Some meals like the Thai-dye wrap and chicken enchilada bowl have Asian and Mexican flavors intertwined with fresh veggies and lean proteins. Once you order, you are able to choose whether you sit in their clean, chic dining area or their cozy, outdoor patio. If you find yourself at Flower Child, I recommend the flying avocado wrap. Delicious!
Wabi House
1229 8th Ave Suite 227, Fort Worth, TX 76104
Craving ramen? Look no further than Wabi House. Wabi House is located on the outskirts of downtown Fort Worth. This restaurant has a uniquely decorated interior with beautiful, rustic wooden tables and ornate paintings along the walls. I always love sharing a meal with my friends on their outdoor patio that overlooks the Fort Worth medical district. Wabi House boasts a menu of tasty ramens, some featuring lean proteins like chicken. Each bowl comes with veggies like bamboo, scallions, and bok choy, but you are always able to up the greenery by adding your favorite toppings. Outside of ramen, the restaurant offers delicious, small plates like edamame, beets and brussels, and seared scallops. This spot is one of my personal favorites and has another location in Dallas.
Malai Kitchen
5289 Monahans Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76109
Malai Kitchen is a unique Southeast Asian restaurant located in the Clearfork shopping district in Fort Worth. The shopping area itself is beautiful and boasts premium stores like Burberry, Tiffany and Co., and more. Malai’s menu consists of veggie-packed noodle options, warm soups, salads, and colorful curries with health-promoting spices. You can pair your meal of choice with a lean protein like chicken or seafood. The atmosphere of the restaurant is clean and modern with both inside and outside dining areas. Malai Kitchen is the perfect place to refuel after a day of shopping and exploring in Clearfork. Malai Kitchen can also be found in Southlake, Texas and Dallas.
HG Supply Co.
1621 River Run Suite 176, Fort Worth, TX 76107
HG Supply Co. is nestled in a new shopping area surrounding the Market by Macy’s Westbend location. This restaurant has a modern interior with an outdoor patio that overlooks the Trinity river. Its menu boasts healthy sandwiches, salads, and bowls, each containing great flavors and fresh veggies. You can even design your own bowl and pair your protein of choice with whole grains and yummy vegetables. This restaurant is a popular pick among TCU students and is usually buzzing on a weekend night. There are other locations in Dallas and Trophy Club, Texas.
Beirut Grill
2410 W Abram St Suite 126, Arlington, TX 76103
Everyone seems to love Mediterranean food for both its unique flavors and health benefits, so why not enjoy a dinner at Beirut Grill. Beirut Grill has typical Mediterranean staples like falafel, Shawarma, hummus, and fresh salads with colorful veggies and feta cheese, but is most proud of its Lebanese flare. There are plenty of salads to choose from, each with their own veggie pairings and flavors, and a lot of produce-packed options. I personally recommend any of their sandwiches since they are paired with hummus, crunchy veggies, and are served on warm, pita bread. I had the pleasure of trying this place with my roommate who was raised on homemade Lebanese cuisine and she gave this spot her stamp of approval!
Taco Ocho
930 E Campbell Rd Suite 109, Richardson, TX 75081
When in Texas, you can’t miss out on some Tex-Mex! Tex-Mex is a great option when navigating healthy eats. Taco Ocho is open from bunch until late night dinner and has a variety of options to keep you fueled regardless of the time of day. Their brunch menu consists of eggs, corn tortillas, beans, and veggies to form fiber-packed, flavorful breakfasts. For later-day meals, they offer produce-packed, flavorful tostadas and a variety of colorful tacos packed with protein and vegetables. Tacos are a great, healthy meal since they pair lean proteins, a source of carbohydrates, and can be as colorful as you want by adding veggies, salsas, and avocado on top. The chicken fajita taco at Taco Ocho is a great way to enjoy some Tex-Mex flare while also eating healthy. The restaurant interior is bright and vibrant while still being clean and modern. This restaurant was recommended to me by a good friend and has other DFW locations in Flower Mound, Frisco, and McKinney.
