Supplement Review: Goli: Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies

Written by Jordyn King BS, MS

Have you ever heard of the new supplement, Goli, Apple Cider Vinegar gummies? For the past few years apple cider vinegar has been a trendy weight-loss product for fat-burning substances. The raw form of apple cider vinegar is a popular home remedy that people have used for centuries for cooking and holistic medicine. Goli is a daily multi gummy that has been said to deliver the benefits of apple cider vinegar in one simple gummy. Some of the claims of apple cider vinegar that I’ve found (in liquid or an oral supplemental form) include helping you lose weight, strengthening your gut health, supporting your heart health, boosting energy, and improving skin. Other claims include relieving heartburn, reducing bloating and detoxifying the body. However, can apple cider vinegar gummies really aid in weight loss like the raw form of apple cider vinegar? Some research has claimed it can relieve a wide variety of health properties and benefits including antimicrobial and antioxidant effects. Apple cider vinegar does contain a high concentration of acetic acid which is helpful for digestion, improving your complexion, reducing bloating, and actually increasing energy levels. Several studies show that the raw form of apple cider vinegar can increase fullness and can lead to eating fewer calories and promoting weight loss. Other evidence suggests apple cider vinegar offers eating and weight loss benefits, reducing cholesterol, lowering blood sugar levels, and improving the symptoms of diabetes. However, there has been little research that exists to recommend Goli gummies as an alternative therapy to traditional medicine.

There is some research linking apple cider vinegar consumption and weight loss; However, the relevant studies are slim to none and there is little to no research of these apple cider vinegar gummies. It should be noted that there is an important distinction between apple cider vinegar gummies and its raw form as just apple cider vinegar. The Goli gummy provides 500 mg of apple cider vinegar in each gummy. For apple cider vinegar to reach potential health benefits you need to consume 14,3737 mg or 1 tablespoon. Thus, an individual would have to ingest around 28 Gummies to provide an equivalence of 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. The goli gummies include apple cider vinegar, acetic, citric acid, pomegranate, vitamin B12 and many B vitamins, which includes additional vitamins and minerals. However, they do not include Vitamin B6 or Iodine which are the building blocks of receiving the better results for short term weight loss. Keep in mind, ingesting too much of the gummies or overdosing on vitamin B12 can cause your skin to break out. Thus, there are high amounts of vitamin B12 in this product, and taking more than 2 gummies a day may be harmful. Additionally, the first ingredient that appears on the nutrition label is sugar which tells us most of this gummy is just made out of sugar (placebo effect??) One LAST thing to discuss is there no raw form of apple cider vinegar that appears in the ingredients section of the nutrition label whatsoever, so why is this product called apple cider gummies, other than citric acid and natural apple flavor?

The goal of the supplement’s mission (from the website) is to help make apple cider vinegar taste good and consume quickly in the mornings. However, Goli gummies or the raw form of apple cider vinegar are not the key to weight loss. Incorporating a helpful lifestyle of foods while creating low carb and low calorie foods is the key to long term weight loss. As well, there are the general side effects of taking apple cider vinegar gummies with certain medications and etc,. As a nutritional professional, I believe relying on a supplement will not lead to long term weight loss. However, there weren't any claims or research that I found that the raw form apple cider vinegar is intended to harm the body or the digestive system. That said, substituting out cider vinegar and skipping meals or not adding fruits and vegetables to your diet will not affect your weight loss or long-term weight loss. Plus, this product has only a miniscule amount of apple cider vinegar which provides no general health benefits of apple cider vinegar. Overall, apple cider vinegar in its raw form may contribute weight loss by promoting satiety and lowering blood sugar levels'; however, it is not the key to long-term weight loss. The bottom line is to talk to your doctor before starting any new supplement. As a nutritional professional, there are other beneficial ways to incorporate weight loss into your diet; however, these gummy‘s apple cider vinegar are not magic and do not provide any health benefits of what I would recommend for long term weight loss.
