Low Calorie Holiday Desserts
At TMN the holidays are not complete without a holiday dessert often reminding us of memories of our childhood and allowing us to appreciate special family recipes passed down to us by older generations. The holiday season really reminds us that food not only nourishes our body, but allows us to bond with loved ones and create memories. Our dietitians are here to share some of their loved recipes that will likely end up on their dinner tables this holiday season.
Pumpkin Pie
In our home the holidays are not complete without a classic pumpkin pie. This recipe from Ambitious Kitchen has become a household favorite. Not only does pumpkin pie play into all our nostalgic food memories, pumpkin is packed with nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium and more.
Apple Bake
If you are looking for a lower calorie dessert option, this may be for you. This apple bake gives all the holiday vibes while helping to meet your produce goals. The best part is it can be prepared in the baking dish itself then slid into the oven. Less dishes during the busy holiday season is an extra win in our book!
Gingerbread Cookies
Over the years it seems gingerbread cookies are not as commonly made. We are not sure why because these cookies are packed with winter flavors and spices. This gingerbread cookie recipe by Cookie and Katie is sure to be a hit.
Non-Alcoholic Eggnog
If dessert is not your thing and you prefer to sip on a holiday treat this eggnog is for you. Did you know that eggnog is actually quite high in protein? The eggs and whole milk in this recipe yield 10 grams of protein per serving! We also like that the ingredients in eggnog can be modified. If you are needing to increase calories we recommend using whole milk and if you are needing to decrease calories we recommend 2% or skim milk. For a dairy-free version try it with unsweetened almond milk or unsweetened oat milk.
