Care/of: Supplement Review
Written by Jordyn King BS, MS
What is Care/of?
Care/of vitamins are three to five supplements tailored to your specific needs delivered in compostable daily packets. Care/of vitamins is a monthly subscription designed for a customer's individual health needs and wants. Care/of was established in 2016 and offers personalized recommendations of vitamins and supplements to customers after they complete a short five minute quiz. The care/of products they offer are vitamins, minerals, herbal supplements, probiotics, specialty supplements, collagen powder, protein powders, boost powders, and quick stick vitamin powder packs for on-the-go use. Care/of customers are asked to fill out an additional quiz on the website to help them further discuss which vitamin supplements would suit best through a series of questions. The first quiz will ask you the basics like age and gender or what are looking to get out of supplements. Their team also offers tracking individuals’ vitamins and supplements, finding out how the vitamins and supplements work, managing their orders, and receiving new recommendations for their individual circumstances such as taking prenatal vitamins. Potential benefits of these vitamins are that they are a convenient routine and addresses another step in the health routine. From many reviews, individuals say this monthly supply of individualized vitamin and mineral supplement works, however, let's take a closer look…
Taking the Quiz
They first ask you a series of questions such as how many vitamins or minerals do you take regularly or if you have taken vitamins or supplements before? For example, when I took the quiz as a woman, they asked if I was interested in prenatal or postnatal health? Other questions were: supplements or benefits that you are looking for or wanted to explore further such as immunity, sleep, stress, hair, brain, heart, bones, nails, skin or fitness. They then ask you a series of questions after you have answered the main basic quiz of what you’re looking for in the supplement. For example, I chose immunity, stress, brain, skin and fitness. I was then asked 58 questions after that took about 10 minutes to answer. An interesting question that I received was, Do you find that your lips get chapped often? or Do you often get really thirsty? And What forms of birth control am I taking? Taking the quiz and answering the additional 58 questions from what I told them as honestly as possible, the Care/of team recommended me to take Cranberry, Charitan, Calcium plus, Prenatal and a Probiotic blend.
In conclusion..
Through the Care/of quiz, if the questions are being asked and answered correctly and accurately as possible then these supplements may help you in the future. I would say one of the biggest cons of this company and their products is the price. For example, when I took the quiz each month, it would be a total of $63 from the products they recommended to be tailored to me. Keep in mind, as well, by the idea of a multivitamin, everybody has different needs, has different wants, and has different body types or separate bowls and dishes of problems that comes with each individual's body. Thus, there will never be a perfect pill for vitamins or supplements to be taken daily even if you answer these questions to the best of your ability. The recommendations of care/of vitamins and minerals products do not base their recommendations on genetics or biomarkers or any general doctor advice; it's simply a set of self-reported questions to an online questionnaire that takes about five minutes to complete. Additionally, these questions can be biased or an individual could be answering not within their own health scope. Whether you’re feeling sleepy one day or sick the other day, the Care/of quiz may change each day with your answers. As a nutritional professional, the Care/of quiz could be a good indicator for the best vitamins and supplements for each individual need; however, individuals should talk or discuss with their doctor before trying these 30 day supplement supplies. Interestingly, Care/of provides a multivitamin on their website you can buy depending on your gender which I would recommend for an accurate supply of your daily vitamins and minerals. Overall, I think this brand is a great product to look into if you are looking for an individualized supplement supply; however, this is just based on questions the individual has answered which can potentially become biased. As a nutritional professional, I would recommend if you would like to dive into these products, complete the quiz then talk to your doctor to see if these supplements are needed based on your own individual health needs or possible side effects of interaction with other medications you are taking or other biomarkers your doctor could be concerned about. If you are taking too many supplements at a time, you can potentially overdose on supplements. Thus, be mindful of how many supplements you are taking and look carefully and closely on the nutrition fact label to see what exact vitamins and minerals you are taking for each individual supplement.
