A Fit Girls Guide to Costa Rica

Written by Hannah Abdulla, RD

Start your Day Strong with Breakfast

There is no shortage of gorgeous resorts and Airbnbs in Costa Rica. We recommend selecting either an Airbnb that is walking distance to a market or a resort with a complimentary breakfast so you can start your day strong. If opting for an Airbnb, take to Google Maps to find a few cafes that you can swing by for a quick bite. We also recommend finding a market that is walking distance so you can stock up on breakfast foods as soon as you arrive. Otherwise, opting for a resort with a complimentary breakfast is a nice choice if you want a low effort option. It is definitely convenient to walk downstairs and have breakfast already made for you! Pro Tip: Use the MyPlate method for resort breakfasts

Produce, Produce, Produce

When I say the fruit in Costa Rica is delicious, I mean it is DELICIOUS. There is no shortage of fresh tropical fruits like pineapple, mango, papaya and guava. We found it a bit more challenging to get in our veggies, so we recommend loading up on fruit whenever you have the opportunity to offset the lack of veggies.

Rainforest Hikes, Beach Walks, Surfing

Costa Rica proved to be a great country for outdoor physical activity regardless of where in the country you are. If near the rainforests there are numerous trails and guided hikes you can choose from. If you are staying along the coast we recommend taking walks on the beach to get in your steps. In terms of surfing, there are some beaches better than others. Even if you have never surfed before, most areas had surf lessons which was such a fun way to get in physical activity!

Eat Cultural Foods

Much of our client base at The Millennial Nutritionist is located within the United States. We want to remind those U.S. based clients that Western health foods are not the only foods out there. Cultural foods are just as healthy. In Costa Rica you will find a ton of fresh fruit, beans, plantains, rice, avocado and fish. We encourage you to try all of it!
